Awesome image quality

I have just set up the new 2022 Sony Master Series A90K42KU Google TV. It is the 42" model and after 15 mins of adding the stand it was super easy to go through the set up process and log into my streaming accounts. The 4K screen is awesome and has a truly unique depth of colour and the black levels gives an excellent definition and contrast. It really blew me away. This is my first Google TV and I am enjoying the ability to download apps for viewing content online, including some foreign channels that I have previously only been able to view on my phone. I don't have a soundbar but have connected the TV to the Sony SRS-RA5000 360 Audio speaker. The connection via Bluetooth was quick and deliver extra depth to the built in speakers. Most of the time however, I find the TV deliver good enough sound through the built in speakers. The TV is slim and looks premium. I can't say that there are any features missing as this product is stacked with connectivity options from streaming, screen mirroring, cable ports etc. The back plates hiding rear cable connections is a nice touch as is the back lit Bluetooth connected remote with Google Voice assistant which I use to launch Netflix, search and more. Software wise everything has worked flawlessly so far and there has been one system firmware update. I'd recommend this product any day but maybe go for the 48" if you have the space.

This is the first Sony product I have been disappointed by. It is let down by concerns over OLED panel longevity and extremely bad software. The issues are as follows. 1.) The brightness is factory set to 100% although the picture brightness is okay in a low lighting environment it would not be in a sunlit room. It worries me that as the OLED efficacy falls with age it will become unwatchable. I asked Customer Service if this pre-setting was normal. They did not answer my question but sent me links to regular Help sections which were not useful at all. 2.) The software is a mess. I initially opted to set up Google TV but the experience was so bad I had to reset to factory default 'set up basic TV.' Too much wrong with it to go into detail here. The basic TV operating software is appalling. One example is the subtitle setting. The assigned remote control button turns on the subtitles on but does not turn it off. There is no obvious way to do that and instructions to help cannot be found (by me at least.) Curiously when trying to do this a message appears at the top of the screen saying subtitles are not available for this service when they are in fact appearing at the bottom of the screen ! By chance a confusing combination brought an on screen selection panel up in an unexpected location which allowed me to turn them off. I've no idea how to repeat that so may avoid subtitles again. I served as a TV electronics design engineer during my career so have a little experience including a close association with Sony engineers with whom I have always had great respect for.

What a shame! This TV has a great picture and sound but a terrible interface. It's absolutely not intuitive and things that should be easy tothere's no The Google search searches the internet - useful when I want to but doesn't help. There are two remotes - the simple one and the more functional one but it doesn't seem to have some of the buttons of the first so one ends up do can't be done at all (as far as I can tell). There is no manual and the built-in help is awful. It relates to several models so much doesn't apply; it's virtually impossible to navigate and searching doesn't bring up anything relevant. Recording to an HDD is extremely cumbersome and after hours of trying and searching I have still found no way to search the Guide. Maybe there is a way but I am at a loss to find it. Before I can set up a recording I have to know the date and time of the programme. I can't find a way to start recording a programme I am watching - why isn't there a record button? And I can't find a way to pause live tv. Yuck! Try searching the internet for help and most of the answers apply to another model or to Youview but not as installed on the TV. For instance, YouView website states I can install an app from Google Play Store on Android TVs but the TV's Google Play Store on this Google TV doesn't list it! This is an expensive TV and needs some serious re-working of its interface. We are really disappointed because the screen and sound are so good. Not sure whether we'll keep it or return it

My TV broke down and I went to Curry's the next day to see what was available. The salesman showed us a number of different brands but this one stood above the rest. I am new to smart TVs but this one was relatively easy to set up and I didn't even need the expert advice from my son which made me feel better about it. I don't think that I could of chosen better.

Lovely looking TV which comes with a solid stand you can adjust with 2 height settings which enables you to accommodate a soundbar under the TV without obstructing the screen. Great picture quality and impressive sound without the sound bar. Very crisp voices, would be nice to have a little more bass. Easy to navigate through all the settngs with ample choice of picture quality and sound preferences. However, a little disappointed with the picture quality when watching football matches. Tried all available picture settings to try to tweek it but the players from a distance appear no sharper than my previous 12 year Toshiba TV. Comes with 2 controllers, one which has a mic for verbal commands to your TV which looks and feels solid. It takes an eternity to set up all your apps but once you are up and running everything runs smoothly. I eventually managed to locate the microscopic power button on the upper left hand side of the TV which you have to hold down for a few seconds before the TV turns off and am not sure whether this is any different than using the off button on the controller, as the TV doesn't appear to have a standby light indicator. Lacks instructions with regards to initial setting up. Comes with two 1cm thick booklets, each approx contains 5 pages on safety and very basic setting up, the rest of the book is in other languages. Would highly recommend the A90X, very pleased.

We bought the 48" Sony Bravia, the picture was very good in HD, but SD the quality of the picture was poor, as we only have HD on 5 channels ( we don't have SKY or Virgin) we took the TV back & got a refund. It would have saved a lot of time setting up the TV, if the sales person had explained about HD & SD.

Bought this TV 2 weeks ago. This is my 3rd Sony OLED TV and they keep getting better. Picture Quality & sound are fantastic. I have my PS5 hooked up to it and again the Picture quality is amazing. Highly recommend the TV….Couple of down points….far to small a remote..why supply two as well? And Not the easiest operating system

Fantastic picture and sound is a good standard, though if I used as a primary tv I would probably link with soundbar. I use for ps5 mainly and it’s really perfect performance. I previously purchased an LG 42 Oled, though had to return it next day as their Bluetooth software is very bad. Thankfully no problems with Sony tv using my AirPods. I must advise I replaced the Sony Tv as I noticed 2 dead pixels upon box opening. Thankfully the replacement has been great so far.

Perfect size and fine quality

We bought this after moving home and had just a small 32” set that was in our dining room but looked very small now but agin,super size would not fit so this 48” is perfect. It is highly specified and on demonstration with Blue Ray disk, gives wonderful results. On a normal aerial, that quality is lost but with a BT TV box, we can get superb pictures. It is not the fault of the set that very few broadcasts show its abilities but when available, it is an outstanding image. The sound is fully configurable and no real need for a sound bar but it is not “HiFi” but better than most. Over all I’m impressed and recommend it but it is a premium price and others might be as good in most situations and at alowrrpricepoint.

De TV en beeld zijn goed, uitmuntend maar de gebruiks aanwijzing en installatie is moeilijk het is niet rechttoe recht aan en ik zou het pdf formaat toch wel prettig vinden. Het duurt een hele tijd voordat je alle mogelijkheden hebt ondekt en de jouwe er hebt uitgehaald. Als je dat eenmaal hebt gevonden is het een genot om te kijken. Wel kan ik aan bevelen bij je provider te vragen om een ultra HD abonnement dat heeft heel veel toegevoegde waarde.

A 90k Bravia XR OLED

So 3 weeks in and I can now give a proper review. Set up including connecting a recording box and dvd very straight forward. Settings are very intuitive. After a few days of viewing set the colour balance sound and dynamic picture options to our preference again very intuitive. Unbelievable picture quality on all of the HD channels. Great picture on non HD channels. Sound quality is great as the screen forms part of the speaker system. And as for the OLED effect it is true the black is really black. I really do consider the product is worth it’s premium price tag

Mooie tv, maar hoog standby-verbruik

Mooie tv. Het inregelen van “een prettig beeld” vraagt wat geduld en experimenteren. Gewone uitzendingen (dus zonder 4K) zijn niet perse beter dan mijn Sony KDL 42W655 uit 2013. 4K is heel mooi. Let op: Bij volledige installatie, dus met Google TV, is het standby-verbruik bijna 30 Watt! Dat is veel te hoog, maar dat komt veel vaker voor bij dergelijke geavanceerde TV’s. Alleen bij de basis-installatie, maar wie beperkt zich daartoe, haal je het lage energieverbruik in standby (0,5 Watt) waarmee geadverteerd wordt. Weinig mensen zullen zich dit bewust zijn; normaliter meet je zoiets immers niet.

I fFinally managed to master the on-screen setup to achieve good picture and sound quality, and very impressed with the results. The only downside was trying to understand the nerdy language used to describe many of the processes and features - clearly not aimed at the older generation!

XR-42a90k - excellent video and audio

I own this device since nearly 2 weeks now. At a first glance the video and audio capabilities are excellent. BUT! From the first day on I face problems with the TV. During initial configuration I get an error that the SUB-Tuner does not receive signal while the main tuner works fine. (Astra SAT 2 wire configuration) With a premium device in my hands I expect premium support quickly solving any problem. But no chance the support experience is the worst I ever faced. They know how to handle the knowledge base but obviously they do not have any technical background. Reading Sony community threads you'll find many threads complaining about bad support. Another topic is the EPG (for SAT) only keeping a few hours of program information and the nightly feature loading EPG content seems not working as expected. The next day I still see only a few hours and even not for all prgrams. If you are lucky you get a device without any problems and are not keen on EPG features you will get an excellent TV.

Superb TV!

I upgraded from a Sony 1080P LED 43" and every aspect of the new TV is a vast improvement. I particularly like the deep blacks of the OLED, the sound quality and the intelligent image processing. Playing PS5 is a whole new experience! Yes it was expensive but I feel it was worth it.

We brought this tv after slot of research, our initial choice was Samsung but after visiting John Lewis we were persuaded to buy Sony, the thing with John Lewis is you get the real facts about all brands but with no loyalty and no bias. A truly great tv, superb picture quality and great colour, very easy to set up, and the remotes were also easy to use, we also found the online help pages at Sony very helpful and easy to access, overall very very impressed and if your budget allows definitively buy it, and if not then stretch your budget because you will not be disappointed

Purchased this Tv, the picture quality is excellent, the problem I am experiencing at the moment is getting my free view box and Apple TV to work, purchased new hdmi cables and still having problems, sometimes I get sound no picture, then if I switch off sometimes all is ok, very frustrating, still trying to work out how to resolve

My Sony OLED is excellent, only issue is with SkyQ

I love my Sony OLED , but it’s constantly losing interface with SkyQ which then needs to reboot to fix the issue , it’s too frequent to ignore also occasionally the sky image is just Blue ! So again reboot Sky to fix , hopefully there is a software update coming to sort it . Also AppleTV app on mine is only AppleTV and not AppleTV+ so in app purchases are not possible and I need to use iPhone app for purchases , again a little frustrating. But as a TV and overall streaming experience the pictures are impressive.

Master Series OLED - Fantastic

Easy set up but not easy to turn on/off

Purchased the new TV after over 12 uneventful years with previous Sony TV. The set up was relatively straightforward and pleased with the picture quality and sound. The set came with two different controls although the manual only makes reference to one! The only problem we have is that it can be difficult to tell is the TV has been switched on or off as there is no indicator light

A Great Leap Forward!

We bought this to replace a Sony Bravia from 2008. It had given great service but as a 26 inch tv it was definitely beginning to show its age. After a long deliberation we decided to stretch our budget for an A90K Bravia. Lovely picture, amazing sound quality and easy to navigate round and use. Totally recommended.

Wish I’d bought a Roku

I was seduced by the excellence of the display in the shop - which to be fair is pretty fantastic - but bears no relation to the sort of things I generally watch (I.e TV programmes), not really any better than my previous telly. But my main gripe is the complicated user interface and lack of documentation. I took me over an hour of searching and a chat session just to find the setting to turn off the really annoying beeps. And as for finding Google play store, I gave up. I have several Roku tvs so I know how user friendly a Ui can be.

Premium TV with Superb Picture Quality

Great OLED TV with superb quality of picture. This combined with an excellent speaker system built into the screen makes the viewing experience a 'cut above the rest' for a TV of this size. It has a wide selection of built-in apps (others can be added) as well as a good selection of inputs including various specifications of HDMI 4K. Overall whilst this set may seem a little expensive, it is certainly worthy of the five star rating that I have given it.

After 2 months still trying to get used to tv. On the whole the image quality is amazing especially on Netflix and Disney+ (with Dolby Vision and Imax Enhanced settings). There are other times when over processing makes scenes look too much like it was shot with green screen cgi even with basic tv programmes. People walking down the street but you can't believe the background? TV linked with Sony surround system but this does not always work well together but it should be 100% compatible to my mind from the same company. Experience so far has been great to disappointing. Having spent over £1200 i expected far better. Twice the price of previous TV which was also a Sony. Smart functionality ok but tv does switch itself on and off which others experience (reading online) and Bravia Core (sony app) also plays up and doesn't always work. Again i expect better.

Impressed by image definition and contrary to reports, I found the image very bright and have turned it down from the default. Sound is OK, but an external amp and speakers / subwoofer is required if you want a cinema experience. Only disappointment is discovering buried in a Sony FAQ that using the YouView programme guide in the UK means a hard drive cannot be connected to the USB port for programme recording.

We have had our new TV for 2 weeks and are very pleased. The picture quality is amazing. Bright colours, deep blacks and very much more detail in those dark night scenes. Getting to grips with the settings is a bit of a puzzle for this 73 year old, but I'm slowly sorting it out. We have no regrets with our purchase.

Inmiddels de vijfde Sony tv en ieder maal is er een behoorlijke verbetering t.o.v. De vorige. Instellen zeer makkelijk middels duidelijk menu en wijst zichzelf betreft de apps ect. Beeld is naar onze mening fenomenaal en geluid meer dan voldoende . Geheel bevalt meer de uitstekend om weer een aantal jaren vooruit te kunnen !

Onze vorige Bravia (uit 2012) was nog niet aan vervanging toe maar we wilden toch wel graag een model die écht SMART was. En dan wordt je toch weer weg geblazen als het om beeldkwaliteit gaat; die nieuwe QD schermen zijn echt verbluffend scherp en vanuit elke kijkhoek. Petje af want die "oude" Bravia was al puik. Smaken verschillen natuurlijk maar dit is een compleet andere wereld, letterlijk! Ik stoorde me aan de haartjes die doorkwamen op de kin van een acteur in close-up, die scherptefilters maken het superrealistisch. Je zou hem bijna bellen om te zeggen dat hij zich eens moet gaan scheren want dit kan écht niet. De SMART functionaliteit waar we deze A90K in eerste instantie voor in huis haalden werkt ook voortreffelijk gelukkig ;) Die 2e afstandsbediening? Top! Netflix of Amazon en gaan :) Zeer content met deze aanschaf!
